With the release of iOS 12 this fall, an Apple Music upgrade will include the ability to search for songs by their lyrics, rather than just artist, album, or title.
When a song contains the correct lyrics, that fact will be highlighted in search results, Appleinsider found while testing iOS 12 developer beta. The app always seems to prefer song titles when filtering search results.
The tweak should make Apple Music more user-friendly to use, however, as people often confuse lyrics with titles, or may only remember one line when trying to locate something.
Lyrics were added to Apple Music with iOS 10 from 2016, but only for display while listening to songs. The feature requires an internet connection, as it can be problematic to retrieve the lyrics of each song stored on a person’s iPhone or iPad.
Also new in the beta version of iOS 12, larger illustrations for artist pages and a “Play” button on them. The latter will play all the pieces of an artist’s discography.
